The Courthouse Preschool & Kindergarten was founded in 1992 by Kimberly Pomares. The owner, Kym, has over a 25 year history in providing excellent education to young students.
Originally the preschool was located in a church. Thanks to the wonderful staff, innovative curriculum, and new ideas, the school grew at an exciting pace which lead to the building of a new school in 2006. With the birth of a new building, came a new name, Courthouse Academy.
As the owner, Kym has always been dedicated to providing Academic Excellence and a wide variety of learning experiences. Incorporating computer classes as well as music and Spanish has allowed Courthouse Academy to stand out from other schools. In 2010, the Spanish Immersion curriculum was created. This gave students the opportunity to become comfortable in two languages. The popularity was unprecedented and Kym found herself once again excited about the decision to expand.
In 2012 the school broke ground again and nearly doubled in size. The new section of the building contains an infant and toddler center, additional classrooms, and a music and dance studio.
We officially added first grade in the 2013-2014 calendar school year and second grade in the 2014-2015 academic year. If the opportunity presents itself Kym would love to expand the school by one grade each year.
*“In recent years, scientists have begun to show that the advantages of bilingualism are even more fundamental than being able to converse with a wider range of people. Being bilingual, as it turn out, makes you smarter. It can have a profound effect on your brain, improving cognitive skills not related to language and even shielding against dementia in old age.” *Excerpt from the New York Times article Why Bilinguals are Smarter, written by Yudhijit Bhattacharjee, Science writer for the New York Times 2012.

Did you know that 90% of your child’s brain is developed by age 5? The preschool years are the most important, developmentally.
The staff, director and owner at Courthouse Academy firmly believe in a sound education in a safe and caring environment. Foremost, Courthouse Academy is an academic school, but we realize our children are still young, and need to have fun. School should be a positive and happy experience and lessons should be interesting. Learning is accomplished in a variety of ways that are designed to excite and appeal to every child.
We are proud to implement proprietary Momentum curriculum. This curriculum is based on professional standards, and is designed with emphasis on age-appropriate lessons. Each year fresh materials, ideas and programs are added to keep lessons interesting and current. Teachers are encouraged to share new ideas and to express their creativity. Students at Courthouse Academy graduate with a strong academic background and are well prepared to attend any school you may choose for them.
Our goal is Academic Excellence in a Safe and Caring Environment.
Various studies suggest that bilingual speakers develop greater mental flexibility, resulting in an advanced ability to process conflicting information and to identify the most important information. This skill also enhances your young scholar’s attentiveness and short-term memory.
